Hiking Plitvice Lakes

Not so many places in the World deserve so many superlatives as the National Park Plitvice Lakes in Croatia. It is home to the brown bears, wolves, and foxes, very hard to see, but hundreds of fish posing for you as national park influencers. Flora and fauna are like huge organisms which every day grow and are best seen while hiking Plitvice Lakes Park. The animal world of the Plitvice Lakes National Park is diverse and rich thanks to the diversity and preservation of the habitats. 

While walking above the water, next to waterfalls, the wooden paths and trails bring you to the biggest lake, Lake Kozjak. Kozjak Lake divides upper lakes from lower lakes. Also a place for refreshments, where restaurants, cafes and snack bars, facilities, benches, and tables are located surrounded by the scenic forest. No need to bring a swimming costume as it is forbidden to swim within the national park. For swimming, there are other places outside to be discovered, so join us on our tour.

What should I wear?

  • Shorts / bathing suit – synthetic shorts or fabric work best
  • Shoes – you must be wearing shoes connected with your feet. “Flip flops” are not allowed.
  • T-shirt – perfect will be a polyester synthetic material, quick dry or long sleeves for sun protection 

Don’t forget to bring with you:

What is the minimum age for this trip?

The minimum age is 6 years accompanied by parents. The length of the trails is from 1.8 to 5 miles and it takes a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 8 hours to reach the end of the trails. The terrain is really gentle and not rocky. It’s not really challenging and perfect for beginners.

What should I wear?

Shoes – you must be wearing shoes connected with your feet.

No swimming costume.

How much time do we actually spend in the park?

You spend up to 2-5 hours at the lakes. Depending on your time it could be shorter or longer.

The best route C takes 4-5h to see lower and upper lakes, boat ride, sightseeing return mini wagon bus.

Can I bring beer or any alcohol to the river?

For safety and liability reasons, no alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the trip or prior to our trips. Any participants who have consumed alcohol prior to the trip may not be allowed to subject to the discretion of the head guide. Abusive or drunken behavior that offends our staff or other participants will not be tolerated.

I am traveling solo. Can I join others on a trip? 

Yes, likely you will probably end up with some new friends to have a drink with after.

What should I do if I’m running late?  

Our meeting time is quite strict. We do our best to be as fast as possible when checking our guests in, so if you anticipate being late please call us as early as possible to let us know. As a courtesy to our guests who arrive on time, we will wait no longer than 30 minutes for you (i.e. If you meet at 10:00, then we will wait until 10:30 am). If we do not hear from you and our messages are not returned, we will consider your reservation as a no show and it will not be refunded or rescheduled.  We are understanding of traffic and other issues so please communicate with us and if done so, we will do our best to reschedule you at a later time, day, week, however, everything is subject to availability and there are no guarantees.

How warm is the water?

In the summer months in July and August expect 15 to 33 degrees.

In the spring months from April to July 7 to 25 degrees.

In September, October expects 12 to 25 degrees.

Do I need previous experience?

No, not at all. It is easy walking, with few steps, short uphills and downhills. 

Is there parking at Plitvice Lakes?

Yes. NP charges parking per hour. Price depending on the type of vehicle and season. Parking is paid upon exiting the park, at the parking payment stalls, by credit card or cash.

Is there any shop or restaurant at the NP?

NP Plitvice Lakes provide a souvenir shop at entrances and official parking, as toilets, coffee bar, and the snack bar from local farmers as well. At Kozajk Lake you can buy fast food, biscuits, and cakes, ice-cream, hot and cold beverages but also refill your bottle of water. Lunch can be arranged in NP during booking time to adjust the tour for you, but we recommend picnic in nature
